Suffolk County Hosts Regional Commuter Choice Award – and Wins Honor for its Carpooling and Emissions Reductions Programs
Ceremony to Recognize Firms working to Encourage Ride Sharing

Hauppauge, NY – Suffolk County will be both an honoree and the host of the New York Metropolitan Transit Council’s Regional Commuter Choice Awards – an annual ceremony to recognize employers doing the most to reduce vehicle emissions and encourage ride sharing.

County Executive Steve Levy, a co-chair of NYMTC, will give welcoming remarks at the 2 p.m. ceremony which will recognize the efforts of:

  • Broadridge Financial
  • Computer Associates
  • Empire BlueCross BlueShield
  • Air Techniques
  • Clearvision Optical
  • Calico Cottage
  • Suffolk County


In three years, Suffolk County’s rideshare program has saved approximately 211,000 miles and 12,500 vehicle trips – reducing CO2 emissions by 92 tons. Suffolk is also being recognized for “greening” its diesel bus fleet, retrofitting units to burn cleaner with fewer emissions, replacing older models with new cleaner buses and purchasing four hybrid/electric buses that reduce fuel consumption by 25 percent.
